How to use your Program Trading Daily Report.

Your Program Trading Daily Report is very easy to understand.  But know well the very first rule about program trading:

"If it's green you own it, if it's red you don't."  Program Trading 101

Since you come from a retail customer background, that should be pretty easy to understand, since by nature you have bought stocks and held them.   And a lot of time for a loss.  So know this very first rule very well.   If you own a stock that is red, sell it.  It is that simple.

Why.  Because program trading is 60 to 90 percent of the volume.  And once the very best program trading firms get on a stock, they can drive it up or more importantly drive it straight down on you, leaving you with a loss.   When you have a problem with the stock market, it will be program selling for sure.

Also do not think that because you are reading the Daily Report tonight, that the information is late and you cannot do anything with it.   Program Trading firms do not flip from long to short to long to short in one stock day by day.  Once they start program buying a stock, that stock will continue to be bought tomorrow and the next day too.  So you have time to get long if you do your home work.  Conversely once the best Program Trading firms start program selling a stock, watch out, that stocks can fall out of bed and for days; giving you plenty of time to get short.  So study the examples below closely.

Here are a few examples for you to study.

One Day's Programs
Stocks that were bought the most during buy programs executed by program trading firms:
UTX, USB, WFC, TXN,
Stocks that were sold the most during sell programs executed by program trading firms:
GILD, AMGN, MCD, BMY.

On this day you would own the green stocks.   But being retail in the past, you will not sell the red ones.   And that is a huge mistake.  If you are going to own UTX, then you are selling short GILD.  And with the same amount of money.   That is a classic long short hedge fund trade.   So don't just buy the calls on UTX.  Buy the puts on GILD too.  Got it?

Also notice that their are four stocks green and four stock red.   That is 50/50 and net neutral over all.  And basically says there is no telling what the stock market will do today, so we have just as many stocks long as we do short.  Since the four in green are the only stocks out of 100 that are going up, IF the markets go up, they will go up more, than the other 96.   And since the stock in red are the only stocks out of 100 that are doing down, IF the markets go down, they will drop more than the other 96.

Another Day's Programs
Stocks that were bought the most during buy programs executed by program trading firms:
CVX, TXN, COP, JPM, MO, BAC, WFC, JNJ.
Stocks that were sold the most during sell programs executed by program trading firms:
OXY, EBAY,  WMT, RTN.

Now notice that there are eight stocks green and only four stocks red.   That is 2 to 1 Long,

And tells you that program trading firms are buying more stock than they are selling,  And here again since the eight in green are the only stocks out of 100 that are going up, IF the markets go up, they will go up more than the other 92.   And since the stock in red are the only stocks out of 100 that are doing down, IF the markets go down, they will drop more than the other 96.

Also notice a very typical prop trading firm opening order trade.  It is called "pair trading" and you have probably seen it in the past but may not have understood it.   Notice that program trading firms are buying CVX, but at exactly the same time selling short OXY.  Both are in the same business.  And thus the term "pair".  Basically you are setting up a spread between them and really do not care about the over all market per se, just as long as CVX keeps going up, and OXY keeps going down.  Why those two stocks are doing that, is totally irrelevant and you could care less why.

Another Day's Programs
Stocks that were bought the most during buy programs executed by program trading firms:
MO, COP, XOM.
Stocks that were sold the most during sell programs executed by program trading firms:
RTN, T, CVS, IBM, MCD, BA, LOW, WMT, COST.

Now notice that there are three stocks green and nine stocks red.   That is 3 to 1 Short,

And since you were a retail customer in the past, exactly where you lost all of your money.  Remember that program trading is 60 to 90% of the volume.  So when program trading firms are selling, you are going to lose.

This day tells you that program trading firms are selling a lot more stock than they are buying,  And here again since the three in green are the only stocks out of 100 that are going up, IF the markets go up, they will go up more, than the other 97.   And since the stock in red are the only stocks out of 100 that are doing down, IF the markets go down, they will drop more than the other 91.  Obviously if more stocks are going down than are going up, the over market will sell off that day, and usually the next and the next.

Another Day's Programs
Stocks that were bought the most during buy programs executed by program trading firms:
KO.
Stocks that were sold the most during sell programs executed by program trading firms:
LOW, UPS, EMR, GM, WAG, FDX, F, IBM, CVS, NSC, RTN, DIS, LMT, NKE, UTX, BA, HON, MCD, WMT, MMM, C, MDT, GE, FCX, EXC, ACN, COST, HD, WFC, AIG.

And now 30 to 1 Short.   And lets you know it is fall and football season.   And the crash for the year.  Usually.  Or in May, as in Sell in May and walk away.  Or on this day, run away.  Short.

Another Day's Programs
Stocks that were bought the most during buy programs executed by program trading firms:
LOW, UPS, EMR, GM, WAG, FDX, F, IBM, CVS, NSC, RTN, DIS, LMT, NKE, UTX, BA, HON, MCD, WMT, MMM, C, MDT, GE, FCX, EXC, ACN, COST, HD, WFC, AIG.
Stocks that were sold the most during sell programs executed by program trading firms:
KO.

And now 30 to 1 Long.   And lets you know it is after Thanksgiving and/or Christmas and, after the crash of the year, we can all finally buy something for the rally into next May.  Usually.
